Watch: Ryan Gosling in Refn's 'Only God Forgives' Red Band Trailer

After a low quality teaser arrived earlier this year, an impressive red band trailer for Only God Forgives, director Nicolas Winding Refn's reunion with his Drive star Ryan Gosling, has arrived. While there are certainly flares of drive with the visual style and brutal violence, this looks like a much stranger film and the trailer isn't exactly forthcoming with a story. That being said, this trailer does the trick, and doesn't need much of Gosling to shine with only a few lines. It's the haunting music and gorgeous cinematography that really pops and Gosling is just icing on the cake. Plus, Kristen Scott Thomas looks fantastic. Watch it!
Here's the red band trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives, originally from Yahoo:
Julian (Ryan Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and acts as both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly. Nicolas Winding Refn writes and directs Only God Forgives, arriving sometime this year.

Ethan, Alex or anyone here. Please, for the love of God, PLEASE can someone upload a true HD version of this trailer? I couldn't get past the first 5 second mark...

I love that this guy makes interesting choices. Very unique styles to his movies, whether you like them or not. I'm just glad that he's doing original stuff - so few directors out there are. Keep it up Refn.

I try not to watch trailers, but with names like Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn, I couldn't resist... And HOOOOOLE-EEEE SHIT that looks good!!!! It jumped past The Grand Budapest Hotel to my #1 most anticipated of the year... Also, I'm glad it didn't have any spoilers.

I gotta real Cowboy Bebop vibe from this trailer. I have a feeling Gosling would make a great Spike Spiegel...and Refn would be a perfect director. This looks pretty good...hopefully the trailer won't be the best thing about the movie.

Great. More self indulgent, over the top violence, with Gosling trying to channel the ghost of Marlin Brando. Drive was like watching paint dry. This will be no different. Meh!

I respect your opinion Drive isnt exactly everyones film, but are you saying Drive had over the top violence? Just what?

I'm saying it was boring. And this looks equally boring.

No I got that, thats your opinion thats fine, but you also said "more over the top violence" referencing Drive, and thats something that either is or isnt, Drive did not have over the top violence, if anything it was brutally realistic and thats not my opinion thats just fact there fore rendering your credibility null. Good day to you hater

If my credibility is null, what does that make yours? You're just some guy on the internet with an opinion. Like me.

Marlin? Now how could I possibly listen to your opinion when you don't know how to spell a legendary actor's name like MARLON Brando? Drive was great and so was Bronson and I'm sure this will be no different. I love the mystery behind it,too. Can't wait!

I agree with your argument up to here. Drive was great BUT Bronson... if you ask me, was a little too self Indulgent. It's not that I'm not "intelligent" enough to enjoy the film. I just don't think it's as good of a film as people try and make it out to be. Tom Hardy was fantastic, but the film in its self, although, trying to capture the solidarity, insanity of Bronson himself, just came across as too arty and pretentious. It kind of missed for me. I don't agree with this film snobbery that seems to be on the uprise, but I do agree that this guy's comments makes it obvious that he is a bit of a popcorn fan. Nothing against popcorn fans. Just. Wish they weren't so critical of films that try something different.

Transformers or Battleship or other brainless crap has it's audience comprised of people with your taste. Some people like to eat junk food ,some people like actual food.

Grow a brain is what he is saying. Or at least have the decency to not speak about things which are above your level of comprehension. Oh yeah, that requires some basic level of intelligence.

Where exactly does he even say he likes battleship? Grow up and stop slinging insults. Personally I liked Drive but not liking Refn/Drive doesn't mean you have no taste. So yeah, just shut up yourself.

OK. So because you liked Drive, then the millions of other people around the world who saw it and found it boring - need to grow a brain? How old are you, 12? So elitist. And so moronic. And btw - I hated Battleship.

Love Refn, just wish he'd get back to working with Mads again. That said, this looks quite good in spite of Ryan Gosling's one note acting style.

Would've been cool if this was the same character from Drive. Refn could've made his own "man with no name" trilogy.

man! Drive was one of the hardest movies for me to watch - not because it's disturbing and certainly not because it's a bad movie (in fact, i loved it), but just because it's emotionally demanding and exhausting - and this looks like it's going to be just as intense!

after watching this, does anyone else think Mr Gosling would be a good contender to be the next batman
