The Counselor Trailer

Has Ridley gone No Country? The very first teaser trailer for Ridley Scott's latest film, The Counselor, has arrived and it's definitely something to check out, even though it's in Russian and only runs 50 seconds. But maybe that's all the teasing we need for this kind of movie. Show us just enough to whet our appetite and save the rest for later. The Counselor has a hell of a cast: Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and John Leguizamo. It's sort of described as "No Country for Old Men on steroids" about a lawyer in over his head after he gets involved in cocaine trade. Check this!

Here's the official US teaser trailer for Ridley Scott's The Counselor, first found via The Film Stage:

Update: The trailer above is now in English, thanks to an official release via Fox. It's otherwise the same.

This intense drug thriller tells the story of an attorney (Fassbender), a good man in need of money who decides to dabble in the cocaine trade. The story heats up when he teams up with a rich acquaintance (Bardem) for the new business that also brings in a shady type (Pitt). Of course, things don't go as planned. The Counselor is directed by the legendary English filmmaker Ridley Scott, of Prometheus, Robin Hood, Body of Lies, American Gangster, A Good Year and Kingdom of Heaven most recently. The screenplay was written by author Cormac McCarthy, the writer behind No Country for Old Men and The Road. Fox will be releasing The Counselor in theaters everywhere starting October 25th later this year. Look good anyway?

That motorcycle scene (the excerpt from the screenplay) was in the New Yorker Fiction edition a few weeks ago. Not only was it the best thing in the whole magazine (it is, after all, written by Cormac McCarthy), but it left me very excited to see how it ended up on film. This enticing little trailer only makes waiting for October that much harder.

Looks nice, some "Drive" vibes but i'm cool with it. Also Cormac McCarthy script this, so must be good.

2 things that going against this. After Prometheus, I dont trust scott anymore. 2nd, After seeing WWZ, Brad Pitt should finally admit that he hates acting and it bores him. His performance in WWZ was the worst part of the movie.

Honestly I think its just because his IMDB resume has gotten so long there isnt a role he hasnt played. If only writers and directors pushed his boundaries a bit more. Look at Killing them softly, as much of a supreme snoozefest(IMO) that movie was his performance was fantastic and that was only 2 or so years ago. Its hard not to get bored with something when your always playing the same guy, hes only human.

I liked Killing Them Softly. It's nice to watch a film that relies so heavily on acting and audience inference than action scenes and snappy dialogue and constantly-in-motion camerawork. One of my favorite flicks of last year, in fact.

McCarthy wrote the screenplay? Sold! Interesting, because if you've read No Country it reads more like a screenplay than his other novels, so always wondered if he'd get into writing them.

The drums aren't loud enough in this trailer. Other than that, it looks really good.

Toksin I totally agree with you! Brad Pitt is just awful now. He doesn't care about acting and frankly paying money to see his dull ass performances makes me blame him completely. Lol my two cents

awful now? imo he's been taking much better roles as of late (tree of life, moneyball, assassination of jesse james). also prometheus was beautifully shot but horribly written. with cormac mccarthy i have pretty high hope for this

I don't know. Ridley Scott's name just doesn't carry much weight with me anymore.
