VHS Movies - Golem13

Maybe these should actually be real, I'd buy a few of them. "I created these VHS covers for 'april's fool day' pretending a parisian hipster named 'Stan' only watched modern films and TV series on VHS," he writes on his Tumblr. French artist Golem13 posted a full breakdown on his own blog detailing his fun creating a series of fake VHS tapes and covers for modern movies and TV shows like "Game of Thrones", "The Walking Dead", "Breaking Bad", The Grand Budapest Hotel, Wolf of Wall Street, Gravity, Interstellar and Guardians of the Galaxy. As goofy as all this sounds, these actually look pretty dang cool and I suggest taking a look at some of the photos of the vintage VHS covers below. If anything, for a quick smile + laugh.

Some photos of the actual VHS he made from his gallery telling the story behind the these. Click for more:

And here's a good look at his line-up of VHS as posted to Tumblr. My favorite is probably Grand Budapest.

Artist Golem13 writes in his post that we already have vinyl lovers, well now there are VHS followers. And he's here to help "revive the VHS industry!" (yea right). It's all pretend and was all a big April Fool's Day joke, that seems to be just as funny look back now as it was when it first hit. You can see close-ups of each and every cover on the Stan VHS Tumblr here. Such a great idea, as there's no better way to pay homage to everyone's favorite rewindable format from the past than create some actual VHS for use today. This also reminds me of the Guardians of the Galaxy cassette tape they made, which was a brilliant idea. This is how it is done! He turned them into 70's covers too!! Awesomely anachronistic!

Nah those 70s covers were huge, had like 1-inch hollowed "walls" surrounding the edges of the vhs tape, incase like WW3 broke out or something. I think I saved the family copy of Superman: The Motion Picture somewhere...

Well, this is some good fun, but what exactly makes this "art", and the guy an "artist"? Seems completely without purpose...

The article didn't mention this as "art", nor creating this making the guy an "artist". Just an (actual?) artist that had a little fun idea. I've taken an art class or two in my time, and I've seen some stupid crap called "art" before, so no I wouldn't call this art by any means. Plus I'm sure he'd have to frame them or crazy glue the 'vhs boxes' into some kind of "retro pop-art monolith" or something stupid for it to be classified as "art".

I'll take Game of Thrones and Guardians of the Galaxy please! I bet Marvel is face-palming themselves! "OHMGERD why didn't we think of that!"
