Edge of Tomorrow Trailer

"Come find me when you wake up!" Warner Bros has unleashed the first teaser trailer for the sci-fi time loop movie Edge of Tomorrow, formerly known as All You Need is Kill, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Taking place in the distant future during war between a race of aliens called Mimics and the human race, the movie involves Cruise being caught in a time loop, having to fight the same battle over and over. We got our first glimpse of this at Comic-Con, but this trailer is packed with gritty war action and it looks damn good. Bill Paxton and Jeremy Piven are in this too, but the story and action are the stars.

Here's the first teaser trailer for Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow, originally from Apple:

Edge of Tomorrow is set in the distant future during war between a race of aliens called Mimics and the human race. A soldier fighting in a war with aliens finds himself caught in a time loop of his last day in the battle, though he becomes better skilled along the way. Tom Cruise plays Lt. Col. Bill Cage, an untrained and ill-equipped officer who is dropped "into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission," but gets stuck in a time loop on the same mission. Doug Liman (Go, Bourne Identity, Jumper) is directing. Warner Bros will release Edge of Tomorrow, formerly All You Need is Kill, in theaters everywhere June 6th next year. Follow updates on the viral Twitter account @EmbeddedUDF, posting as an embedded soldier in the war.

Somehow... This film became one of my most anticipated for next year. Seriously... Tom is in Cruise control.

I see what you did there.

I'm actually impressed. It looks like a good time. Which is funny considering I hate Tom Cruise.

Hmm... it looks interesting. But it didn't "wow" me. I hope they have a better trailer. I'm a sucker for these sci-fi flix anyway.

5

Wow, this looks great. But then again, so did Oblivion. Look forward to finding out.

I enjoyed Oblivion, for a SFX flick. Looks like this one will be at least as impressive w/ the visuals.

VAharleywitch on Dec 11, 2013

7

I loved Oblivion. No "but..." about it, and no "only for the visuals" crap either. Oblivion was gorgeous, exciting, memorable and atmospheric.

I must admit I watched it with some chatty company and we were all under the influence of alcohol. Maybe I'll give it another looking someday. Seemed a little too similar to "Moon" to me though at the base. If you haven't seen that movie, check it out.

It looks very interesting, and I love Tom, but I can't help but wish they'd left a little more to the imagination and been a bit more 'teasery'.

It's Not Sequel or Prequel. Just Pure ORIGINAL SciFi Action. BRAVO

Ehsan Davodi on Dec 11, 2013

13

It's not original. It's an adaptation of the Japanese book "All You Need Is Kill" — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_You_Need_Is_Kill It would have been nice to see some Asian actors for a change. After all, this is a Japanese book.

rozekel on Dec 11, 2013

14

Um... Tom Cruise is the average height of a Japanese male. Does that count?

redtie on Dec 11, 2013

15

I knew that dude , i'm talking about originality in movie territories. Not Mangas or Comics or Even Books. I said sequels & prequels. But Excuse For Fuzz Anyway.

Ehsan Davodi on Dec 11, 2013

based on a manga

Based on a _novel_...but there will be a manga starting in January, so you did get that right!

I guess Tom Cruise runs a lot in this movie too...

Groundhog's Day with guns and aliens. I'm in. They must have used the same guys for the music as the Battle LA trailer.

David Diaz on Dec 11, 2013

First time he got back I thought terminator in reverse, John Connor sent in past, but it doesn't apperar to be the case. Music is not the best tho.

I've never seen a bad movie of Tom Cruise but this trailer doesn't work for me! But I will certainly will watch it because I like sci-fi flicks!

Seemed a bit long for a "teaser" trailer

Luke Hanna on Dec 11, 2013

25

Ah cool time travel meets scifi. No cheesy CGI (From the looks of it) and some 'we all know' Cruise will run scenes...im down. I just wish these trailer editors would get a grip. Terrible music.

Buzzfunk on Dec 11, 2013

26

Yeah, baby! This looks cool! Finaly something original! Thank you hollywood! This got me really excited, hope it delivers.

Armitall on Dec 11, 2013

27

Looks worth a ticket. I'm impressed that they utilized actual rigs w/ weight, and worked the stunts around said weight & mobility limits. I can respect that effort.

VAharleywitch on Dec 11, 2013

28

Agreed. And from the reports, those things were heavy....

Scopedog on Dec 11, 2013

29

Would have been better without Tom Cruise, something about him just doesn't fit this movie well.

Charlie Hard on Dec 11, 2013

30

Funny you say that, because the original script revolved around a 20 year old kid who gets this power. They did massive rewrites after Cruise came aboard.

axalon on Dec 11, 2013

31

Soldiers sacrificed en masse to a senseless, unwinnable war + the "waking up from a dream to discover reality" journey. We've seen both stories many times. But combined together here, it looks quite effective. Huge action and future tech, but also deep introspection and internal struggle. Also, Emily Blunt looks convincingly tough. Love her.

crystaltowers on Dec 11, 2013

32

Plus it's also based on a pretty good science fiction novel--one that handled those tropes very well, in my view.

Scopedog on Dec 11, 2013

33

No matter how crazy Tom maybe the man can act. His sci-fi films aren't always my favorites but this movies has a little bit of everything. I thought it was just another action packed futuristic war movie. I had no clue it involved what looks like time travel. I always like those kind of scenarios because its always interesting to see how the story plays out.

I thought that although the plot was disappointing, the visuals and general atmosphere of Oblivion were rather stunning and intriguing. I paid 15 Euro for the Oblivion DVD and do not regret it.

If you told me that your Warhammer 40K Space Marine miniature would one day be played by Tom Cruise... I would scoff. Today... I retract said scoff.

Armor by John Steakley and Replay by Ken Grimwood. Edge of Tomorrow.

jstockton858 on Dec 11, 2013

40

Or, ALL YOU NEED IS KILL by Hiroshi Sakurazaka...which is the source novel for this film. (Don't get me wrong though--loved ARMOR, and thought REPLAY was a great read. Don't know if Sakurazaka ever read those books though, before he wrote this back in 2004)

Scopedog on Dec 11, 2013

41

based on the synopsis...this takes place in the future? based on that helicopter and the cars in the teaser I think not.......unless everything is just a dream.....

desispeed on Dec 11, 2013

42

That would mean there is another Source Code coming our way. But something tells me this is not going to look like that. Maybe they manage to travel back in time. Or maybe there is a reason why some of todays cars are still used in the future. In the trailer it looks like someone (Cruise?) in a mech suit is facing off against a car that would fit in todays streets...

Nash on Dec 12, 2013

43

I dont understand how people dislike Tom Cruise. I love everything he is in... He might be a little wacky but he is a solid actor and does a great job picking the movies he's in. This does remind me of Groundhog's Day, but this does looks like a great movie.

Franklin Carpio on Dec 11, 2013

44

Exactly. People almost feel like 'someone owes them something" because a certain actor throws a tantrum or has a diff opinion about things. Personally, i grew up with his movies. I dont care about his Scientology crap or if he is gay. Hes been always solid. The MI movies are a blast and older movies like color of money are still the best!

Buzzfunk on Dec 11, 2013

45

Yup. Rain Man also is top of the bill. Cruise is a weird dude but man, he made some great movies the past 30 years. That's what matters.

No matter what Tom Cruise does in his personal life... sounds like a complete mental case but the dude can pick movies and act.. I love me a good time travel loop movie.... Looper meets Groundhog Day meets Halo. Looks freaking awesome..... Emily Blunt is getting better and better at picking the right movies to be in. She looks kick ass in this.

even if the movie tanks, you know Tom Cruise gave 100%. just look at his face when he runs, goddamn, he looks like he's gonna pop blood vessel.

I kinda understand why they changed the title, I think if at the end of that it had come up saying 'All You Need Is Kill' I would have just laughed the whole thing off afterward. Edge of Tomorrow feels kinda plain, but is at least a bit descriptive of the story.

What is the song that plays during the trailer?

Ya, its very similar to the one in the trailer of Battle for Los Angeles.

When I heard that Cruise is doing two scifi movies allmous back-to-back I was stoked. I liked oblivion but it was missing something, hopefully this will deliver. One of my ''must watch'' in next year. Also liking the trailer, not showing too much of the story and action.
