John Cusack Holds Elijah Wood Hostage in First 'Grand Piano' Trailer

After premiering at Fantastic Fest this year (check out a review from Jeremy Kirk), the thriller Grand Piano is coming to theaters next spring (and VOD earlier in the year). Elijah Wood plays a concert pianist attempting a comeback after a career-crippling performance in his past. The pressure is already on, but then things get even more stressful as he finds a note scrawled in his sheet music saying he will be killed if he plays one wrong note. It's basically Phone Booth at a piano but with John Cusack on the other end of the threats this time. Our review says calls it a "stylish, quirky thriller that never hits too heavily." Watch now!

Grand Piano is directed by Eugenio Mira (Agnosia) and written by Damien Chazelle (The Last Exorcism Part II). Tom Selznick, the most talented pianist of his generation, stopped performing in public because of his stage fright. Years after a catastrophic performance, he reappears in public in a long-awaited concert in Chicago, but Tom finds a message written on his score: “Play one wrong note and you die.” Without leaving the piano, Tom must discover the anonymous sniper’s motives and look for help without anyone realizing. Magnolia Pictures releases the film to iTunes on January 30th and limited theaters on March 7th, 2014.

This film reminds of the fake movies that were featured in shows like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm that had tacky titles and ridiculous concepts like this one..

This sounds and looks cheesy, but I like the actors, and it should at least be entertaining and a bit humorous as well, or so it seems. I'd check it out.

I saw this at Fantastic Fest. It's a very straight forward movie but it's so incredibly well made, very intense and it has a great twist.

Nonetheless, the premise sounds ridiculous to me. But if they manage to make a good movie out of a ridiculous premise, then it's close to a must watch...(Much easier to make a decent movie out of an everyday premise, isn't it...?)

I'm sorry but Nash the premise isn't in the movie. They're keeping a lot close to the vest so the audience can discover what's really going on as they watch it. Does it appear to be a guy terrorizing a piano player with a sniper rifle for no reason for 90 minutes. Yes... Is that what's really going on? No.

People need to give this film a chance. It premiered at Fantastic Fest and every audience lucky enough to see it, loved it. It's very straight forward but has great twists and is incredibly tense.
