David Yates / Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

After a brief flirtation with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron to return to the wizarding world for the spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them didn't work out, Warner Bros. has found another seasoned director of their multi-billion dollar franchise to take on the project instead. Variety has word that David Yates, responsible for the final four films in the Harry Potter film series, had agreed to get back behind the camera for the first film in a new trilogy that will adapt the faux textbook from J.K. Rowling's magical universe into an adventure about the author Newt Scamander.

The new film is set in New York about 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter franchise, so The Boy Who Lived won't even be alive yet. But that doesn't mean some other older familiar wizards couldn't pop up in the story. The studio has already set a November 18th, 2016 release date for the film, but as of now, it's not clear when production will begin because Yates is busy working on his new adaptation of Tarzan until November. At least fans can rest easy knowing that a director with experience in the wizarding world, especially one who was at the helm of some of the best films in the series, will be at the helm of this new film trilogy that will expand the big screen universe. Sound good?

He's mainly a tv movie director. He ruined the last Harry Potter Movies. He has not done a movie since. He needs to go back to the BBC and stay there. Suppose to be directing the new Tarzan. in 2016. This is horrible news.

Save for Cuaron's take, naturally.

Zzzzz… (Why do people that have great and clever ideas want to destroy their creations after the fact? Freud had something to say about Œdipus…)
