Must Watch: First Trailer for Sundance Indie Comedy 'Robot & Frank'

"Frank, my memory can be used against you." Samuel Goldwyn has unveiled the official trailer for Robot & Frank, the charming indie comedy that premiered at Sundance this year (I quite enjoyed it - my review). Frank Langella stars as an aging thief in the near future who is given the gift of a robot butler to help take care of him, even though he thinks he doesn't need him. Liv Tyler stars as his daughter who gives him the robot, James Marsden as his son, along with Susan Sarandon, in this quirky, comical, brilliant indie. It's very light on many effects or style, but it's a charming film, worth seeing in my opinion. Check this out!

Set in the near future, an ex-jewel thief (Frank Langella) receives a gift from his daughter (Liv Tyler): a robot butler programmed to look after him. But soon the two companions try their luck as a heist team.
Robot & Frank is directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Jake Schreier, making his feature directorial debut. The screenplay was written by Christopher D. Ford, also making his feature debut. This first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (Alex's review). Looks wonderful, really excited to see what Frank brings to the screen. The only slight problem is that the Robot reminds me of Moon, but even then he was one of the best parts of that film. I'd just like to see a robot done differently in film, rather than an assistant. A la I, Robot for example, but not as corny.

right on. but Langella *and* Sarandon? double sold. i didn't get a Moon vibe myself. the robot looks to me to be modelled on Honda's Asimo, http://asimo.honda.com/asimotv/, which has been around for quite a few years, now.

Really interested in seeing this, but I question if the story can really fill a feature length film worth of time. I also think that as good as it looks, the trailer is terrible. It gives away far too much. If they had kept the burglary aspect a secret it would have been a real surprise and a very welcome one.

Very impressed as usual by Frank Langella, a very underrated character actor. The rest of the cast looks good to. Nice story also.

...looks o.k... too bad about the trailer though...it suffers from major spoileritis..seems that plague has completely engulfed marketing departments of every movie...it's as if they are arfaid nobody will show if they don't show basicaly the whole movie in a trailer...

As I've said before, I'm really excited for this. For some reason I thought it was gonna be a short film, but I guess I was confusing it with some other picture with a robot (a Horror film maybe?).. Anyways, definitely going to check it out as soon as it's avilable in any format at all!

First of all, a question...How can Susan Sarandon continue to look so hot? And be so cool? Damn! Second...this looks like a great sci-fi film...something the late Ray Bradbury might have like to have seen...or written!
