Man of Steel Teaser Trailer

"He's going to change the world." Warner Bros has finally posted the first high def teaser trailer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel online via Apple and Yahoo. Henry Cavill stars as our new Superman in this latest origin story reboot, but it feels much more like Batman Begins (with a tinge of Malick), with Chris Nolan producing. In addition to Cavill, this stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane & Kevin Costner as the Kents and Russell Crowe as Jor-El, but we don't get to see any of them yet. This is a more laid-back first intro to our latest Superman, but I still like it. It's subtle, I enjoy the LOTR music, but want to see more.

Note: WB has released two teasers with different voiceovers each, we've found both already - added below.

Here's the first Pa Kent teaser trailer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, in high def from Yahoo:

Here's the second Jor-El teaser trailer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, in high def from MSN:

A child sent to Earth from a dying planet is adopted by a couple in rural Kansas. Posing as a journalist, Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) uses his extraordinary powers to protect his new home from an insidious evil.

Man of Steel, the new DC Comics Superman reboot, is being directed by Zack Snyder, of Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen & Sucker Punch previously. Christopher Nolan is producing, and co-wrote the story with David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Unborn, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), who wrote the script. Warner Bros is bringing Man of Steel to theaters everywhere on June 14th, 2013 next summer. You in?

Too early to say anything yet... again, I hope its more Nolan than Snyder... The "director of 300 and Watchmen" thing says nothing to me...

6

Stupid question but why would he have two white lines behind him like if he was flying with jet engines?

Patrick on Jul 21, 2012

7

Pretty sure I read that is a moisture/vapor trail caused by disturbing the air flow/temp at high altitude. but yes i agree it's caused by the jet engines. Not an aerospace engineer or know flight mechanics in precise detail, just speculating.

Akirakorn on Jul 21, 2012

8

It is more likely to happen in jet engines, that is all. (Thank you wikipedia.)

please look up Contrails

Anon on Jul 21, 2012

13

I did look up contrails, in fact I checked the wikipedia link that was posted by another user. On that very page, it says contrails can be formed by either condensation from engine exhausts, which is not the case here, or by condensation from decrease in pressure in the case of wingtip vortices. If you look up the latter, you'll see it doesn't really quite fit a human flying without wings. Oh well.

LosZombies on Jul 21, 2012

the cape

William W on Jul 21, 2012

16

he passes through at supersonic speed and creates a low pressure area behind him where water vapor condenses and this forms the contrails. two wingtips create two trails, his two feet create two trails.

Anon on Jul 21, 2012

17

Or, if not the Cape, then the TWO contrails COULD be formed from the Vortices that form around the soles of his boots. They seem to be the right distance apart. Has anyone tried pausing the video?

jacobcrim on Jul 21, 2012

22

"Contrails (short for "condensation trails") or vapour trails are long thin artificial clouds that sometimes form behind aircraft. Their formation is most often triggered by the water vapour in the exhaust of aircraft engines, but can also be triggered by the changes in air pressure in wingtip vortices or in the air over the entire wing surface." Or Superman's cape.

up until the part in each trailer where superman is shown flying the trailers look like an indie movie ready for a film festival(which there is nothing wrong with those movies) but for a superman film? mehhhh. sure it was just a teaser but this has to be one of the worst teasers ive seen for any action/ superhero/ or adventure movie in awhile. sure i enjoyed the whole monolog but it just comes back to the thing where it looks like a hipster is just filming random shadows and butterflies and swingsets. Despite the teaser im still excited.

Chip_Tha_Ripper on Jul 21, 2012

27

What's the purpose of a TEASER?? Lol, it did exactly what was intended. If you can remember back to the Batman Begins teaser you'd see they are virtually identical in feeling. Lots of potential here...

Ok, they already established his badassness for me by showing him as a crab fisher. If nothing else he at least has balls of steel, that's for sure. I think these were beautiful teasers, and the LOTR score only helped it rather than distract from it. I think I might just forgive you for Sucker Punch after all, Zack!

SuicidalOptimist on Jul 21, 2012

I'm with you on the crab fishermen. I grew up in a small town that had a lot of fishermen, crab and otherwise. We learned there were 2 types of people in town you didn't mess with: 1. The wrestling coach. 2. Any crab fishermen...period.

I did as well. Although modern incarnations of Pa Kent keep him alive into Clark's adulthood, I have a feeling that won't be the case here. And saying that, I'm certain we'll see a teary, lip quivering final moment for Pa Kent. I'm already dreading crying like a baby.

Quanah on Jul 21, 2012

Mimi on Jul 21, 2012

71

I love how at the beginning you don't even know it's a Superman movie, it isn't until you see him as a kid with the cape. I loved that technique in the trailers for Batman Begins. And well, Christopher Nolan is involved so, this might be very good. With this little 1:33 minute trailer I am already booked for the midnight screening. Can't wait for the theatrical trailer. Both of the voices are spectacular and what they narrate is beautiful.

First of all, Zack Snyder never made a film with emotional depth in his carrer, the only thing that can draw me to this film is the fact that Chris Nolan is producing it. Now, about the trailer, they cannot play the bridge of Kazad-dum from the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack on this teaser. LotR music is only suposed to be heard with LotR, this is just wrong.

Is it me or does it seem a bit too dark? I know he's going for a bit of realism, but I was hoping for more of an Avengers feel than a Dark Knight feel. But then again, Nolan is producing. I'll just stop talking. It'll be a good ride either way.

boon on Jul 21, 2012

91

Honestly I've never been a fan of Superman, ever. Never liked the films, never enjoyed the cartoons or his appearance in them or the comics. I realize and respect him as the very first comic book superhero, but nothing ever brought me towards him. He was a 1 dimensional character... Until these teasers. I feel more of a connection to this character from a few minutes of footage and the LOTR soundtrack than I've felt in my 25 years on this earth. It doesn't hurt that two of my favorite directors have teamed up on this. And for those saying that Nolan is messing up Superman by making him darker like Batman, honestly I don't see that. It makes him more "human" and by human I mean relatable to see him with some emotional and personal problems that he has to overcome rather than just a few problems with Lois and an enemy that he can use all of his powers to defeat easily. Honestly, how can one respect a hero (especially one that is supposed to beTHE most important one in history) without seeing the obstacles he has to overcome in order to take the mantle that is the Man of Steel.

Saw this before TDKR tonight... knew it was a possibility, went in full of hope, and was not disappointed by Jor-El. Honestly, took a bathroom break as TDKR was starting, rather than during the previews and potentially missing this teaser. Both monologues... perfect. Teaser... performed exactly as it should. Nolan didn't fail the trilogy, and I hope he's more than intimately involved here. Would love to see more, but may refrain from voluntarily watching any additional footage until I can see the full feature in IMAX. Counting on this to be epic.

JKnaak on Jul 22, 2012

109

wow, shivers! My main criticism of Zack Snyder films has been that, despite the grandiosity of the visuals, they always feel very small, you know its all being shot in a little green room. Watchmen started to feel a little bigger, but it was Legend of the Guardians where he really delivered ( I thought) when he didn't have to worry about getting real people into a virtual world and could just concentrate on the story and the characters. Nolan has always been able to create the sense of a very real, very full world in which his stories take place. Already this teaser shows that,at least, Nolan has helped Snyder craft a very full world of enormous scale within which Superman's story unfolds. cant wait to see more!
