A Good Day to Die Hard

"The 007 of Plainfield, New Jersey." Now this looks like a Die Hard movie! We haven't even seen any first look photos, but now the first trailer for A Good Day to Die Hard, the newest installment in the Die Hard franchise, has arrived. Bruce Willis is back as the nearly impervious John McClane, but this time his son (Jai Courtney) is getting in on the action. And to amp up the sequel, this is the first time McClane will be dealing with bad guys overseas as he and his son find themselves in Moscow. This trailer is just fun as hell and feels like it might get back in the spirit of the original film. We're definitely pumped now. Watch it!

Here's the first trailer for John Moore's A Good Day to Die Hard, originally from Yahoo:

A Good Day to Die Hard is the fifth installment in the long running Die Hard franchise following Bruce Willis as Detective John McClane. John Moore (Max Payne, Behind Enemy Lines) directs the sequel written by Skip Woods (The A-Team, X-Men Origins: Wolverine). This time McClane finds himself in Russia where nothing is as it seems and he must team up with his estranged son (Jai Courtney) in order to stay alive in Moscow and keep the world safe for democracy. Cole Hauser, Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir and more star in the film which will hit theaters for an explosive Valentine's Day on February 14th, 2013. Excited now?

'The 007 of Plainfield, New Jersey.' with Skyfall coming out this year, they really have loaded this short teaser like a Bond movie. fair enough. it's Bruce, it's Die Hard, that alone makes me interested. but we loved John McClane in the original Die Hard because he was the everyman hero, someone who triumphed despite his shortcomings, because he *wasn't* Bond, or the apparently indestructible, never in any danger, highly trained super human who appears here. and i'll never forget how bad John Moore's Omen remake was, so...

Dont forget about Max Payne.

Max Payne was good...ish...

No....no it wasnt, but this is coming from a die hard(yep I did it) fan of the games.

Cody W on Oct 4, 2012

6

THAT is what killed it comparing it to the games will always put a adapt-movie in a bad light

Jericho on Oct 4, 2012

7

Thats not entirely true, but the movie didnt even roughly follow the game, its like the writer looked at the back of the game case and then wrote the script.

Max Payne had a lot going for it. It's plot was loosely enough like the games, and the look was spot-on. The story was appropriately noire-ish. But the director was downright awful. He knew everything about what guns were in what shot but had no clue how to stage a scene. The acting was sooooo stiff that it ruined whatever shallow dialogue was in the script. He never gave anybody anything to do in the scenes and they would say the dialogue ok even but be standing there unnaturally rigid, to the point where it was laughable... Also there should have been more gunfights with more bullet-time... wasn't that the point of the games?

What they should have done was gotten Timothy Gibbs (The actor used to model Max from part 2) to play the physical part of Max, gotten James McCaffrey to dub over with his voice, and Same Lake to at least help write the movie.....Oh and NOT hired John Moore.

i think when you have been through four death defying moments of defeating terrorism with a quick come back and a few guns you would think you were as good as Bond too....

Ah, I dunno. If it is anything like the previous films, he always delivers a line like that after doing something incredibly badass- yet he never actually meant to do. It really doesn't matter. This already has my money.

loved the ode to joy referencing the first film!

That really looks like it's going to be fun, where the previous one was a chore. Can't wait!

COLE HAUSER!!! I forgot he existed. I think a Dazed and Confused viewing is in order soon.

That almost felt a bit (dare I say it)... Christmassy?

Skeptical. Want it to be good, but after that last one, its proving difficult to be excited here. I wish McTiernan would come back to the franchise. Then I would have no doubt. Cole Hauser is a great addition, and of course Bruce is always the shit.

🙂 He's looking really sexy, looks like a great date movie for Valentine's Day.

A February release date is not a good sign.

Some studios are putting tentpoles in February and March to avoid the summer clusterfuck. Plus, when you're the one big blockbuster in a given month, audiences will come to the theaters when there's nothing but crappy movies in theaters.

Ethan Anderton on Oct 4, 2012

20

Yes, March has seen some huge blockbusters. February not so much... (Hannibal, Ghost Rider, Safe House?!), unless your definition of a blockbuster is to struggle to make over 50 million. This is the first Die Hard to not open in the summer. This series should have died after the fourth film.

BATTLEZONE on Oct 4, 2012

21

It shouldn't have died at all. It should've been left in peaceful retirement after the third!

late winter to spring is when studios typically dump their garbage. me thinks this is garbage.

Anyone know if the boys from Top Gear UK took up the studio's offer to direct the chase in Moscow? Or were they just kidding?

Chris Amaya on Oct 4, 2012

Bruce Willis was shown(on location) with Clarkson in a quick clip on one of their pseudo-serious reviews recently so I'm guessing it happened yes

Where the fuck are you "John MacTiernan"? we are tired of this fucking young grade B directors....tired of lame die hards after you....where the hell are you man?

"McTiernan is free on bail pending appeal"

vasras on Oct 5, 2012

His appeal was denied this week and it is unknown if he has been arrested to serve his sentence or not.

I could sure do without the gratuitous lingerie shot. The first movie didn't need to lean on pathetic crutches like that.

ZackCarlson on Oct 4, 2012

37

Yeah...The first one only had a gratuitous tit shot. Wait...What?!

Lee Moder on Oct 5, 2012

I preferred it when John McClane wasn't just an generic gun-toting action hero. He was just the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time. And used his skills and wit and luck to get through intense situations and defeat the bad guys.

max on Oct 5, 2012

In the first three Die Hard films John McClane wasn't a super hero he was just a down on his luck detective in the wrong place at the wrong time but managed to defy the odds using his surroundings. In Die Hard 4 it felt more like a Mission Impossible, Jason Bourne or James Bond film, driving cars into helicopters and being chased by a jump jet whilst driving a big rig. Die Hard 4 was the day the series died.

I honestly think John Moore is an underrated director. I think this will be AMAZING! Don't get me wrong, I've played every Max Payne game and I love them a lot, but the movie wasn't all that bad. It had great cinematography and was pretty well done even though it wasn't even close to the greatness of the game. But, who watches Die Hard for the story? We all watch it for the over-the-top violence cheesy dialogue . I'M SO IN

Can't judge how it's gonna be like but will be looking forward to see it.
