Promised Land Trailer

"This town, this life… it's dying." Focus Features has unveiled the first trailer for Gus Van Sant's Promised Land, a contemporary drama that explores America at the crossroads where big business and the strength of small-town community converge. Still interested? The cast is lead by Matt Damon playing Steve Butler, a salesman who is sent along with his partner, Sue Thomason played by Frances McDormand, to close deals in a key rural town for his corporate natural gas company. There he encounters John Krasinski, Hal Holbrook and the lovable Rosemarie DeWitt, locals who oppose them and change his life. Charming.

Watch the first trailer for Gus Van Sant's Promised Land, in high def from Apple (via The Film Stage):

An ace corporate salesman (Matt Damon) for a natural gas company experiences life-changing events after arriving in a small rural town, where his corporation wants to tap into the available local resources.

Promised Land is directed by award winning filmmaker Gus Van Sant, of many great films including My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, Elephant, Paranoid Park, Milk and Restless previously. The screenplay was co-written by stars Matt Damon & John Krasinski, based on a story by Dave Eggers. Focus Features opens Promised Land in limited theaters starting on December 28th this winter.

Looks like a good movie. Gotta love the Van Sant and Damon together. Nice to see Krasinski getting a writing and acting credit.

I wish I went back to his roots and did those "weirder" flicks.. Not that this looks bad (I actually liked the trailer), but I think it's too oscar-baity/weinsteinish.

Agreed that Damon and Van Sant are talented artists, but worried about potential harm when emotion starts playing with science fact.
