Oz The Great and Powerful Trailer

"The great wizard from Kansas… I've waited for you to come… set things right." Disney has unveiled their dazzling, colorful, fanciful new full-length theatrical trailer for Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful, his "prequel" adventure taking the original Wizard of Oz to Oz to tell his origin story. James Franco stars as the "wizard from Kansas" known as Oz, along with Mila Kunis as Theodora, Rachel Weisz as Evanora and Michelle Williams as Glinda. This looks more magical and explosively whimsical than Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland or even the original Wizard of Oz, but possibly a fun adventure as well. Check this out!

Watch the full theatrical trailer for Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful, in high def via Apple:

When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard—and just maybe into a better man as well. Also features the three witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams). Disney's fantastical adventure Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Dark Man, Spider-Man, Drag Me to Hell), imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. From a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. Disney will be sending us back to Oz on March 8th, 2013 next year. See you then!

Franco and Raimi again? Why not. Go into this with low expectations, and I'm sure it will be enjoyable. Put the movie on a pedestal, and you'll be using your peripherals to exit the theater early.

Looks better than I expected. That damn doll is creeping me out though.

I have no idea if the story is tied to The Wizard of OZ nor if Dorothy if there after watching the trailer. And that is what makes it fantastic! Must see on 2013, definitely.

More excited after that trailer! The wicked witch is where this will pass or fail, & they are not showing her yet....hmmm?

Rachel Weiz and Mila Kunis are the wicked witches obviously. Which one is destined to have a house fall on her head though? I'd say Kunis

Actually Weisz is the Wicked Witch of the East hence she gets the house on her head.

OMG the visual effects look like ass. And why is Imageworks reusing the Lizard hand clawing across the table surface shot?

Some of the shots are nice, but there's an overload of cheesy CGI in this trailer. Especially the coming-at-ya monsters.

Why is Raimi trying to copy Tim Burton? This is so derivative of Alice right down to the visual effects only not as good. This is what he does after Spider-Man? Jeez.

Wow! That was surprisingly good. Faithful to the classic in terms of production design, but with some pretty impressive action....

Ugh.Again with the same sound effect at the end of the trailer when the witch appears in the fire. When is Hollywood going stop using that goddamn awfull sound effect for monsters, aliens space ships and anything they want to portray as scary ? Otherwise the movie looks like potentially great fun.

I enjoyed this trailer, and I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. And I'm in agreement with the rest of the people that the last shot of the witch looked pretty awesome. However why am I getting the feeling that just as the wicked witch comes out of that firey twister a house will slam down on her, a door opens and a young girl in a blue dress steps out with a little black dog, cut, roll credits.

that would be a real twist end - and leave open the possibility of a WoO remake?.....that'd be ok - although i hate when classics are messed with.

beevis on Nov 15, 2012

I agree. Some films should just stand as they are and skip the remake hustle everyone seems in such a rush to apply nowadays. However, what if they CG'd in Judy Garland's entrance from the Original? Talk about a real prequel then.

i agree - and yes, there are some very interesting possibilities where judy garlands character being met up with.
