Oblivion GFX

"This is Jack Harper. I'm good to go." In theaters now is Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion, a sci-fi adventure set on a futuristic Earth, starring Tom Cruise, built on a stunning world created by Kosinski and his team. One group helpful in envisioning the future world this takes place in is Munk & Co, run by Bradley Munkowitz, a motion graphics designer who worked with Kosinski on the graphics in the movie. A couple of readers have tweeted us links to this Vimeo posted by Munkowitz showing the behind-the-scenes, or rather full complete versions, of his motion graphics as integrated into the sets and used in the movie. It's mesmerizing to watch.

Here's the full Oblivion GFX Montage in high def, posted by GMUNK on Vimeo:

Munkowitz ran a full breakdown online here and covers each section in detail on Vimeo as well. He explains how much work they had to do: "Predictably, the list of graphic assets to be created was obscene, so munko assembled and led another super team of GFX mercenaries and descended into the lovely confines of Crater Lake Productions to generate the aforementioned fuckload of graphic content… Working with Joseph always brings out the best in Munk and Company, and this time around was certainly no exception…" Munkowitz last worked at Digital Domain and created 12 minutes of holographic content for Kosinski's Tron Legacy. I love the world that Kosinski created in Oblivion and it's fascinating to see the work just this team put into it.
