Lee Movie Trailer

"Even when I wanted to look away, I knew I couldn't." Roadside Attractions has revealed the official trailer for a movie titled Lee, a biopic about the famed war photographer known as Lee Miller. This premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last fall, and played at AFI Fest in LA. It's the first feature film directed by acclaimed cinematographer Ellen Kuras. TIFF's intro: "Oscar winner Kate Winslet stars in this fascinating portrait of the great American war correspondent Lee Miller, whose singular talent & ferocious tenacity gave us some of the 20th century's most indelible images… The story begins in the South of France, 1938, where Lee Miller is vacationing with her dearest and closest friends who are artists, poets, and confidants." She was a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during WWII. The ensemble cast in this film includes Alexander Skarsgård, Andrea Riseborough, Marion Cotillard, Josh O'Connor, Noémie Merlant, Samuel Barnett, and Andy Samberg as her photographer friend David E. Scherman who joined her on the front. "Lee lived her life at full throttle, for which she paid a huge emotional price." It seems like an intense experience, as a film about the horrors of war should. Take a look.

Memphis Soul Music Record Label 'STAX: Soulsville U.S.A.' Doc Trailer

STAX: Soulsville U.S.A. Trailer

"We were on top of the world." HBO Docs has unveiled the trailer for a documentary series titled STAX: Soulsville U.S.A., arriving for streaming later this month. This docu series from HBO "captures how an underdog record label launched a movement and superstar musicians like Isaac Hayes and Otis Redding." The Memphis soul sound that electrified the world… In 1960s Memphis, an audacious set of interracial collaborators dared to make their own music on their own terms, forming Stax Records, one of America's most influential creators of Black music. At the peak of its success, Stax artists commemorated the Watts Rebellion by playing to over 100,000 African Americans at the 1972 benefit concert Wattstax. During an era of major social turbulence, systemic inequity, racial tensions, Stax saw stunning artistic & cultural success, and managed to rebound from repeated business setbacks & losses before the studio ultimately dissolved after 15 pioneering years. With appearances by Otis Redding, Estelle Axton, Al Bell, Steve Cropper, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. Jones, Sam Moore, & Deanie Parker. Looks like a lovely tribute to Stax and all their artists.

Benedict Cumberbatch in 80s NYC + Puppets Series 'Eric' Full Trailer

Eric Trailer

"Don't give up on him" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a very dark, emotional drama series titled Eric, the latest creation from award-winning British writer Abi Morgan (of Shame, The Iron Lady, Suffragette, "The Split", "All About Marriage"). Set for a streaming debut on Netflix later in May. Vincent, a grief-stricken father whose son goes missing, finds solace through his friendship with Eric, the monster that lives under Edgar's bed. It's set in NYC in the 1980s and features "puppets…lots of puppets." Netflix's Eric mini-series stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Gaby Hoffmann, and McKinley Belcher III. It follows the desperate search of a father when his nine year old son disappears one morning on the way to school. "As Vincent’s progressively destructive behaviour alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home." The cast also includes Dan Fogler and Clarke Peters. This looks dark and gritty and strange and emotional! Not an easy thing to pull off. It sort of reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are but in 80s NY.

Watch: Wes Anderson Directed This Funny Commercial for Montblanc

Wes Anderson's Montblanc Commercial

"in the morning, by the way, we'll all three ski back down to base camp after breakfast." What a surprise! There's another new Wes Anderson short film now out online for everyone to enjoy. It turns out Anderson has directed a funny 3-minute short film commercial for the uber fancy German pen company Montblanc. They just debuted it online and it's absolutely worth a quick watch. You have to see what Wes cooked up for them! He even appears in this one! The short is celebrating 100 years of the pen called the Meisterstück, that was first introduced by the company in 1924. Which actually is quite remarkable! "An ode to individual style and mastery." The film stars Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman, and Wes Anderson as three Montblanc fans (or perhaps aficionados?) who take refuge in a mountain cabin near the real Mont Blanc to discuss their love for and appreciation of Montblanc pens. As lovely as they are, they're definitely out of my price range. Even if this is all just obvious advertising, it's still amusing seeing these three together in a film.

Now that title makes sense! Based on a series of articles from New York Post columnist Joel Sherman, this docu series covers team owner George Steinbrenner’s removal from baseball for trying to buy info on Dave Winfield, and every other mishap and incident. Series interviews include Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Dave LaPoint, Kevin Maas, Jim Leyritz, Jesse Barfield, former Yankees manager Buck Showalter, Yankees' announcer Michael Kay, Brian Cashman, and Bernie Williams, and more. This looks like a must watch for Yankees fans and/or any sports history maniac.

Dumb Thriller 'Shadow Land' Trailer w/ Marton Csokas & Rhona Mitra

Shadow Land Trailer

"You stand on the sideline too long, the game is gonna be over." Paramount Movies has revealed an official trailer for a psychological thriller titled Shadow Land, being dropped on VOD this summer. The latest from the same stuntman filmmaker behind Air Force One Down before. Haunted by relentless nightmares foretelling his untimely demise, Former President Robert Wainwright summons his past psychiatrist to his upstate residence who discovers the threat may be more real than imagined. With his trusted advisor, they embark on a mission to uncover the truth, navigating a dangerous path that could end up exposing a global crisis. This sounds like a completely crazy nonsensical script that is might be trying to comment on current events. But anyone with half a brain can see right through the BS. Starring Jon Voight, Marton Csokas, Rhona Mitra, Philip Winchester, and Sean Maguire. It looks much more kooky than it does thrilling.

Presumed Innocent Teaser Trailer

"She woke something up inside of me… I can't stop thinking about her." Apple has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a crime thriller series titled Presumed Innocent, streaming starting this June. Another twisted crime thriller. This is about a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys' office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The series is based on the acclaimed book of the same name written by Scott Turow. The description: "This story brings to life our worst nightmare: that of an ordinary citizen facing conviction for the most terrible of all crimes." The star-studded ensemble cast in here features Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich, along with Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, Kingston Rumi Southwick, as well as Elizabeth Marvel. More from the book: "It's the stunning portrayal of one man's all-too-human, all-consuming fatal attraction for a passionate woman who is not his wife, and the story of how his obsession puts everything he loves and values on trial--including his own life." Hmmm this looks quite similar to Gone Girl at first glance.
