Discuss: Thoughts on Mike Cahill's Film 'I Origins' Post-Screening

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Tonight we hosted a special screening of Mike Cahill's new film I Origins at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City, partnered with Disqus and presented thanks to Fox Searchlight. Following completion of the screening, we're opening up discussion regarding the events that unfold in it, and general thoughts on the film. I Origins stars Michael Pitt, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey & Brit Marling in a story that could fundamentally change society as we know it. Is it really that powerful? Now that you've seen it, leave a comment below with your thoughts on Mike Cahill's I Origins.

Thank you for attending our screening, presented by FirstShowing and Disqus, on Thursday evening at the Crosby Street Hotel. What did you think of the film? Did it live up to expectations or did it go farther than you thought possible? In my review from Sundance 2014, I wrote: "Where I Origins succeeds is in how much depth it has in simplicity. There are seemingly disconnected or pointless moments that many will wonder if they have any importance. The importance of these moments can't be found on the surface, but rather deep within the ideas that film presents. From choosing India as a location in the second half (related to Buddhism) to the characters and their ages to the random connections in the story." Do you agree or not?
What did you think of Mike Cahill's I Origins? Fascinating, exhilarating ideas or not so much?

The science was very real throughout. Not sure I believe the conclusion though... 🙂 Can't wait for the sequel...

I saw a screening of Another Earth at Sundance and was excited at the chance to see Cahill's second film. It did not disappoint. I felt both films achieve a balance of thought provoking yet sentimental and emotional. Thank you for the screening!
