Watch: Andy Chen's 'The Spider' in Full - Horror Spider-Man Fan Film
"You can talk to me. What did we say about responsibility, Peter?" This ain't your Aunt May's Spider-Man. Now available to watch online is a 10-minue short film called The Spider, described as a "horror take on Spider-Man." Joining the other two spider horror films this year - Sting and Infested. Written and directed by Andy Chen, an up-and-coming young filmmaker who goes under the name "Locust Garden" on social media, the short film features a legit cast. Chandler Riggs (seen in "The Walking Dead" & "A Million Little Things") stars as Peter, with Holgie Forrester, Carl Addicott, Matthew Tyler Vorce, Ben Thomas, and Caylee Cowan. It is an entirely fan-made, non-profit film inspired by Spider-Man. It gets really dark at the end, going down a path similar to Cronenberg's The Fly, which is exactly what I was hoping to see in this short. Super disgusting! Sony would never do anything like this with the real Spidey character, which is why it's rad to see a fan make something freaky & fun involving NYC's friendly neighborhood weirdo. Enjoy.

"I'm sick of not being taken seriously." Hulu / Disney+ have revealed the main official trailer for the seris Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, launching for streaming in June this summer. This French series about haute couture & the fashion industry was developed under the original title Kaiser Karl, produced by Gaumont and Jour Premier, with six episodes at launch. The infamous German fashion designer Karl Otto Lagerfeld passed away in 2019 after an illustrious & elaborate career. D+'s Becoming Karl Lagerfeld plunges viewers into the heart of the 70s, in Paris, Monaco, and Rome, to follow the formidable blossoming of this complex & iconic personality of Parisian couture, already driven by the ambition to become the Emperor of fashion. Between glamour and clashes of egos, grandiose parties and destructive passions, discover the story of Karl before Lagerfeld. Daniel Brühl stars as Karl Lagerfeld, with Théodore Pellerin as Jacques de Bascher, Arnaud Valois as Yves Saint Laurent, Alex Lutz as Pierre Bergé, and Agnès Jaoui. This looks more like a story about how wild & debaucherous it was in the 70s, with just a touch of the glamour of French fashion.
New Trailer for 'Star Wars - The Phantom Menace' 2024 Re-Release
"Fear is the path to the dark side…" Time to return to that galaxy far, far away. 20th Century has revealed a brand new trailer for the 25th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace in theaters this May. This highly anticipated prequel in the Star Wars series opened in the summer of 1999, some 25 years ago, and the hype was through the roof. I remember waiting in line just to get tickets, and all the mania waiting for it to open. Then everyone went to see it and did not like it. Now all these years later, is it time for a re-appraisal? In The Phantom Menace, two Jedi escape a hostile blockade and come across a young boy who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their original glory. We're introduced to Anakin, Jar Jar, Qui Gon, Amidala, Shmi, Valorum, and many others in this sci-fi spectacle. Starring Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd, Ian McDiarmid, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Pernilla August, & Frank Oz. Official Trailer for Clippers Series 'Clipped' Feat. Laurence Fishburne
"I need to show them that I have the power." FX on Hulu has revealed an official trailer for a series called Clipped, about the other Los Angeles basketball team known as the Clippers. Hot on the heels of the HBO Max series Winning Time about the L.A. Lakers, this one is also about a controversial moment in this other Los Angeles team's (recent) history. FX's Clipped takes you behind the scenes of a notorious NBA owner's racist remarks, captured on a tape heard around the world. This series is based on the hit ESPN 30 for 30 podcast "The Sterling Affairs", charting the collision between a dysfunctional basketball organization & even less functional marriage, and the precipitating tape's impact on an ensemble of characters striving to win against the backdrop of the most cursed team in the league. Clipped features Laurence Fishburne as Doc Rivers, Jacki Weaver as Shelly Sterling, Cleopatra Coleman as V. Stiviano, and Ed O’Neill as Donald Sterling. Also with Kelly AuCoin, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Rich Sommers, Corbin Bernsen, Clifton Davis, and Harriet Sansom Harris. This looks much more dramatic and emotional than the other series.

In celebration of its 40th anniversary, and for a look back at a classic trailer that has re-appeared online, enjoy these previews for Wolfgang Petersen's classic The NeverEnding Story. In this big screen adventure, a troubled boy dives into a wondrous fantasy world through the pages of a book. He ends up journeying through strange lands, encountering all kinds of creatures both kind & evil, making some friends & enemies along the way. Barret Oliver stars as Bastian, with Noah Hathaway as Atreyu, Tami Stronach as the "Moon Child", plus Patricia Hayes, Sydney Bromley, Gerald McRaney, and Moses Gunn. If you grew up in the 80s or 90s like me, you have seen this movie many times, but the young generations of today may not be familiar with it. There are some clunky practical effects, but there are also some creatures that seem so real it's hard to forget them - like the giant flying dog known as Falkor. It's fun to look back at how Hollywood used to promote new releases. This is "for anyone who's ever made a wish."

"I don't demand much, my life is drifting away…" If you'd like to prevent your life from drifting away, you need to stop and take 14 minutes to enjoy this. You won't be the same after. The Burden is a Swedish stop-motion animated short film musical from filmmaker Niki Lindroth von Bahr. It originally premiered back in 2017 and played at almost every major festival - Cannes, TIFF, Sundance, Annecy, Fantastic Fest, and many others. If you haven't seen it yet, well what are you waiting for? A dark musical enacted in a modern market place, situated next to a large freeway. The employees of the various commercial venues deal with boredom and existential anxiety by performing cheerful musical turns. The apocalypse is a tempting liberator. In this comically acerbic musical epic, the animal occupants of a generic shopping plaza next to a freeway sing out their existential angst — doomed by the apocalyptic banality of subsistence in the modern age. Crazy Trailer for Russian Superhero Sequel 'Major Grom: The Game'
Here's another unwanted sequel to a movie no one saw that doesn't look very good… An official trailer has debuted for Major Grom: The Game, a Russian comic book movie from director Oleg Trofim. This is a sequel to the 2021 comic book movie Major Grom: Plague Doctor, a big budget production in Russia about a famous superhero. In this sequel, a year has passed since the defeat of the Plague Doctor, and Igor Grom has become a hero for the whole city. But now he is waiting for a fight with a new supervillain. His perfect police life in St. Petersburg is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious villain calling himself Ghost (or "The Phantom"). He asks him to play a dangerous game, the stakes being the lives of ordinary people. Well, that doesn't sound very fun! This stars Tikhon Zhiznevskiy as Grom, plus Alexander Seteykin, Lyubov Aksyonova, Aleksey Maklakov, Olga Sutulova, Matvey Lykov, and Andrey Trushin. Alas, none of the footage from this trailer looks any good, even the first Plague Doctor movie looked better than this does.

First Look Teasers for 'Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Series
"I need new butts to kick!!" Paramount+ has revealed a quick teaser for their upcoming animated spin-off series titled Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, set to launch sometime this summer. This is a continuation of the massively successful animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem from last year, one of my favorites as well. Set after the events of the 2023 movie, the Turtles emerge from the sewers and onto the streets of New York, where they are faced with new threats & team up with old allies, to navigate through teenage life and villains in the city. The Turtles must deal with their new life as heroes while also dealing with the pressures of going to high school in New York City. Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon reprise their roles from the film as the Turtles, alongside Ayo Edebiri reprising her role as April O'Neil. This series is the 5th animated TMNT TV show, and was originally announced last year along with the sequel to Mutant Mayhem. This takes things back to a simple 2D animated style, but it still has the same spunk and charm as the movie. Keep an eye out for more.

"If I cross a line, I ruin it." "Everything's such a mess right now…" Signature Ent. in the UK has debuted an official trailer for a sweet new British romantic comedy film called This Time Next Year, arriving on VOD in June this summer in the UK. No US date is set yet, and this hasn't played at any festivals either, despite looking pretty good. Minnie and Quinn are born on the same day, one minute apart, in the same hospital in London. Their lives may have begun together, but their worlds couldn't be more different now. Years later they find themselves bumping into each other again. Maybe it's time for her to finally take a chance on love. Lucien Laviscount (best known from Emily in Paris) and Sophie Cookson (from "Gypsy" & Infinite) star in this effervescent tale of romance, friendship and two separate lives destined to align. It's directed by acclaimed editor Nick Moore (who has edited many British classics including Notting Hill, About a Boy, Love Actually, Along Came Polly, Nanny McPhee, Wild Child). This looks charming! It's simple yet sweet.
Funny Trailer for Hulu Comedy Movie 'Prom Dates' from Kim Nguyen
"He's a hot college guy, everyone would freak if I brought him to prom." Hulu has revealed the trailer for a high school coming-of-age comedy called Prom Dates, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Kim Nguyen - who has mostly been making TV before this. This hasn't premiered at any festivals, like many Hulu features do (like The Greatest Hits or Suncoast also this year), but it does look just as worthy. "They made a pact to have the perfect senior prom. That was their first mistake." Jess and Hannah, at 13 years old made a pact to have the perfect prom, only 24 hours before the big event, everything is ruined when they break up with their dates. Now they have one night to find new dates and make their fantasies come true. Starring Julia Lester as Hannah and Antonia Gentry as Jess, JT Neal, Jordan Buhat, Zión Moreno, Terry Hu, with John Michael Higgins & Chelsea Handler. Looks enjoyable with tons of lewd humor.
Scary Trailer for Found Footage Yoga Horror Movie 'Mind Body Spirit'

Welcome Villain Films has revealed an official trailer for Mind Body Spirit, a found footage yoga horror movie from filmmakers Alex Henes & Matthew Merenda making their feature directorial debut. This first premiered at the 2023 Phoenix Film Festival last year, and it will be on VOD this May. Breathe. Find your center… before it finds you. An aspiring yoga influencer embarks on a ritual practice left behind by her grandmother. As Anya becomes obsessed with the mysterious power of the practice, she unwittingly unleashes an otherworldly entity that begins to take control of her life – and her videos. She must figure out how to stop it from consuming her in this "extremely frightening and unsettling" new horror. Starring Sarah J. Bartholomew as Anya, with Madi Bready, KJ Flahive, Anna Knigge, and Kristi Noory. This also won the Audience Award for Best Feature at Unnamed Footage Festival 2024. Yeah there is some creepy potential with this concept, especially from this extra eerie house she's living in.
'Summer Camp' Comedy Official Trailer with Keaton, Bates, Woodard
"You're too lovable to hate." Awwww. Roadside Attractions has revealed the official trailer for a summer comedy called Summer Camp, hitting theaters at the end of May for everyone to enjoy. Back in the early 2000s this would've been the kind of movie that a studio would've promoted a summer blockbuster, but now it's just a simple release from Roadside. Summer Camp follows Nora, Ginny, and Mary, three childhood best friends who used to spend every summer at a sleep away camp together. After years apart seeing each other less & less, when the opportunity to get back together for a summer camp reunion presents itself, they all seize it and head off for an adventure together. Getting into all kinds of trouble camp trouble, or so it seems! Rafting, zip lines, food fights, and more shenanigans. This stars Diane Keaton as Nora, Kathy Bates as Ginny, and Alfre Woodard as Mary, along with Dennis Haysbert, Eugene Levy, Josh Peck, Nicole Richie, Betsy Sodaro, and Beverly D'Angelo. It looks like Kathy Bates is dropping the best lines in this.
Another Look at Neil Gaiman's Sandman Series 'Dead Boy Detectives'
"These two boys are cheating death." Netflix has unveiled one final 30-second teaser trailer for Dead Boy Detectives, which begins streaming today on Netflix worldwide. This new supernatural series is based on the beloved comic series from Neil Gaiman, and a new addition to "The Sandman Universe" for Netflix. It looks cool! Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. Two teen ghosts work alongside a clairvoyant to solve mysteries for their supernatural clientele — until a powerful witch messes it up. Edwin & Charles are best friends, ghosts, and the best detectives on the Mortal plane. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal and her friend Niko, they are able to crack some of the mortal realm's most mystifying paranormal cases. Should be entertaining! George Rexstrew stars as Edwin and Jayden Revri as Charles, with a fun cast including Kassius Nelson, Yuyu Kitamura, Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Lukas Gage, David Iacono, and Ruth Connell. There's some rad shots in here, including a giant tentacle monster and this big mouth woman. It might actually be good?
Russell Crowe is Possessed in Meta Horror Film 'The Exorcism' Trailer
"Can he be saved?" Vertical has revealed the official trailer for a horror thriller film titled The Exorcism, starring Russell Crowe - though it's not related to his other exorcism film The Pope's Exorcist from last year. This was originally titled The Georgetown Project, but they gave it this new title that will confuse people into thinking it's related to the classic The Exorcist. Though it sort of is. This film is made by Joshua John Miller, son of actor Jason Miller, who played the doomed Father Karras in the original Exorcist film. It's inspired by his experiences growing up knowing his dad played that role. A troubled actor begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he's slipping back into his past addictions or if there's something more sinister at play. Also starring Ryan Simpkins, Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, Samantha Mathis, & David Hyde Pierce. This is a pretty cool meta concept, a film-within-a-film horror about an actor being possessed. This trailer has some seriously scary moments…
