Watch: Wes Anderson Directed This Funny Commercial for Montblanc

Wes Anderson's Montblanc Commercial

"in the morning, by the way, we'll all three ski back down to base camp after breakfast." What a surprise! There's another new Wes Anderson short film now out online for everyone to enjoy. It turns out Anderson has directed a funny 3-minute short film commercial for the uber fancy German pen company Montblanc. They just debuted it online and it's absolutely worth a quick watch. You have to see what Wes cooked up for them! He even appears in this one! The short is celebrating 100 years of the pen called the Meisterstück, that was first introduced by the company in 1924. Which actually is quite remarkable! "An ode to individual style and mastery." The film stars Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman, and Wes Anderson as three Montblanc fans (or perhaps aficionados?) who take refuge in a mountain cabin near the real Mont Blanc to discuss their love for and appreciation of Montblanc pens. As lovely as they are, they're definitely out of my price range. Even if this is all just obvious advertising, it's still amusing seeing these three together in a film.

Yankees Doc Series 'Bronx Zoo '90: Crime, Chaos & Baseball' Trailer

Bronx Zoo '90: Crime, Chaos and Baseball Trailer

"This is insane! It really was the Bronx Zoo!" Another look back documentary heading to streaming soon. Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a documentary series titled Bronx Zoo '90: Crime, Chaos & Baseball, which is a real mouthful title for this sports history mini-series. It's about the 1990 New York Yankees, which not only was one of the worst years in Yankees history, but one of the most controversial with all kinds of problems with players, management, and beyond. Now that title makes sense! Based on a series of articles from New York Post columnist Joel Sherman, this docu series covers team owner George Steinbrenner’s removal from baseball for trying to buy info on Dave Winfield, and every other mishap and incident. Series interviews include Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Dave LaPoint, Kevin Maas, Jim Leyritz, Jesse Barfield, former Yankees manager Buck Showalter, Yankees' announcer Michael Kay, Brian Cashman, and Bernie Williams, and more. This looks like a must watch for Yankees fans and/or any sports history maniac.

Dumb Thriller 'Shadow Land' Trailer w/ Marton Csokas & Rhona Mitra

Shadow Land Trailer

"You stand on the sideline too long, the game is gonna be over." Paramount Movies has revealed an official trailer for a psychological thriller titled Shadow Land, being dropped on VOD this summer. The latest from the same stuntman filmmaker behind Air Force One Down before. Haunted by relentless nightmares foretelling his untimely demise, Former President Robert Wainwright summons his past psychiatrist to his upstate residence who discovers the threat may be more real than imagined. With his trusted advisor, they embark on a mission to uncover the truth, navigating a dangerous path that could end up exposing a global crisis. This sounds like a completely crazy nonsensical script that is might be trying to comment on current events. But anyone with half a brain can see right through the BS. Starring Jon Voight, Marton Csokas, Rhona Mitra, Philip Winchester, and Sean Maguire. It looks much more kooky than it does thrilling.

Presumed Innocent Teaser Trailer

"She woke something up inside of me… I can't stop thinking about her." Apple has revealed the first look teaser trailer for a crime thriller series titled Presumed Innocent, streaming starting this June. Another twisted crime thriller. This is about a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys' office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The series is based on the acclaimed book of the same name written by Scott Turow. The description: "This story brings to life our worst nightmare: that of an ordinary citizen facing conviction for the most terrible of all crimes." The star-studded ensemble cast in here features Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich, along with Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, Kingston Rumi Southwick, as well as Elizabeth Marvel. More from the book: "It's the stunning portrayal of one man's all-too-human, all-consuming fatal attraction for a passionate woman who is not his wife, and the story of how his obsession puts everything he loves and values on trial--including his own life." Hmmm this looks quite similar to Gone Girl at first glance.

This is premiering at the 2024 Annecy Film Festival in France this summer as a major premiere there - one of the first ever from Pakistan at the festival. Official Trailer for Korean Horror Film 'Sleep' from Filmmaker Jason Yu

Sleep Trailer

"The ghost haunts your husband, but you brought him in." Curzon Films has revealed an official trailer for the Korean horror thriller film titled Sleep, an indie creation from filmmaker Jason Yu. This is his feature directorial debut after working as an assistant director for Bong Joon-ho on Okja and other films. It first premiered at last year's Critics Week sidebar at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where it earned rave reviews. "When he sleeps, someone awakes…" A pregnant wife who becomes worried about her husband’s sleeping habits. They consult a sleep clinic without success and as his nightmarish behaviour escalates, they desperately seek help from a shaman. Sleep stars Jung Yu-mi as Soo-jin and Lee Sun-kyun as Hyeon-soo, with Kim Gook-hee. This film is super scary! It's quietly unsettling horror that will get under your skin as as the story plays out. Don't watch this film late in the evening just before you go to sleep – you'll be up all night afraid, too.

Amusing First Look Teaser for Dupieux's Cannes Film 'The Second Act'

The Second Act Teaser Trailer

"Total nonsense, don't listen to what they're saying." Unifrance has revealed the first look teaser trailer for the new film from Quentin Dupieux titled The Second Act, which will be the Opening Night premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival this month. The fest kicks off May 14th – and this will be screening on that same day and opening in French theaters, too. Dupieux has been cranking out films non-stop, with Smoking Causes Coughing, Yannick, and Daaaaaali! just in the last few years. This next one stars Léa Seydoux as Florence, Louis Garrel as David, Vincent Lindon as Guillaume, and Raphaël Quenard as Willy, plus Manuel Guillot as Stephane and Françoise Gazio as Rose. Here is the setup: Florence (Seydoux) wants to introduce David (Garrel), the man she's madly in love with, to her father, Guillaume (Lindon). But David isn't attracted to Florence and wants to throw her into the arms of his friend Willy (Quenard) instead. The four characters meet in a restaurant in the middle of nowhere (called "Le deuxième acte" or The Second Act in French). This kooky teaser is another clever meta joke from Dupeiux - a hilarious way to introduce a film.

Official Trailer for 'Copa 71' Doc - About the 1971 Women's World Cup

Copa 71 Doc Trailer

"It was important for women to see that this was possible." Greenwich Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a sports history documentary film titled Copa 71, arriving to watch in June. It first premiered at TIFF 2023 last year, with stops at the London, Philadelphia, AFI Fest, and Göteborg Film Festivals. Told by the pioneering women who participated, this is the extraordinary story of the 1971 Women's Soccer World Cup, a tournament witnessed by record crowds that has been written out of sporting history – until now. This is the entirely true story of the 1971 Women’s World Cup, which was held in Mexico City and witnessed by more than 100,000 fans. This landmark tournament was dismissed by FIFA, of course, which should be no surprise to anyone familiar with this sordid sports organization. The doc film features interviews with various players who participated in the World Cup in 1971 and many others. Executive produced by Venus & Serena Williams. This looks awesome! Glad this once forgotten story is finally being told with proper pizazz.

Watch: Entrancing Short 'Sit Down, Don't Touch Anything' on Creativity

Sit Down, Don't Touch Anything Short Film

Do you sometimes struggle with creativity? How do you motivate and inspire yourself (again) when you're out of energy to create? The latest short film creation from Swiss animation filmmaker Frederic Siegel is this 5-minute film titled Sit Down, Don't Touch Anything. It's an entrancing, hypnotic short about the creative process inspired, of course, by Frederic's own challenges with creativity. "I worked on [this film for] the last two years more or less in complete secrecy during the pandemic. I started with experimenting on new, weird styles and ended up with a weird 5-minute, experimental short." No other intro is needed, just click play on the video, turn up the volume, enter full screen – and enjoy. Frederic also works with a Swiss animation design studio called Team Tumult and they've made some awesome shorts in the past (highly recommend The Lonely Orbit). This new one is a solo short but still as mesmerizing as ever. Dive in below.
